Update Outdated Cabinets By Adding Sheet Metal And Chalkboard Paint

Nearly all the cupboard doors in our 60's style house are flat faced. The only ones that aren't are those that were remodeled. Though unappealing, I've found this to be perfect since it has compelled me to be creative!

I've framed many cabinet doors with mouldings and trims to give them a fresh look, but this time I was working on the play room doors and there were a lot of them. The need to break up the look and give them some detail was obvious. What to do?

I wanted them to be playful, yet practical. So last year I framed them with some lath and stained it after painting the bottom doors in chalkboard paint...my solution to most dilemmas anymore. I just didn't want them all to be chalkboard. Finding it difficult to come up with the perfect look, the cabinets stayed like this for a whole year.

Until finally it came to me when trying to decide on a monthly I participate in. This would be a great place to share and display the children's artwork!

Something magnetic would be the perfect solution. That's when the idea to install sheet metal came about.

Now what was once a boring and drab, if not sad, looking place to store games, is a fun place for the children to draw with chalk and hang their art for everyone to see. Come check out the details on my blog!
