Old Window Turned Card Holder - a Trash to Treasure Project

I love incorporating old windows in my wall decor -- the bigger the size, the bigger the impact -- for VERY few dollars! Read below to find out how to turn an old window into a card holder! This will come in very handy for displaying Christmas cards!

My friend needed an interesting way to display her beautiful hand made cards for an upcoming craft show. I thought an old window that I found at a garage sale would make a perfect card holder!

After giving the frame a good cleaning, I painted it with left over paint from another project -- (front and back) -- I'm going for a more rustic look and this took less than 5 minutes -- I didn't even get out a proper paint brush!

Once dry, I gave it a light distressing with 220 grit sandpaper -- again, no rules here -- what ever looks good to you and matches your décor.

In order to maximize how many cards could be displayed per pane, I messed around with the card layout before I actually got to the stapling. If I hang the frame vertically, there are 9 panes in total. Once I determined that I could display two cards per frame, I cut 8 strands of jute roughly the same size. I then stapled them to the back of the frame (horizontally) so that there are 2 strands of jute per window frame.

TIP: My first string of jute is hung fairly close to the top of each window pane -- the second cord is stapled in the middle of each pane. Simple, right?!

For the cards that open vertically and can't be hung OVER the rope, I just clipped them to the rope with sweet little clothes pins I found at TJMaxx -- then can also be found at any craft store. (I told my friend this is a "loaner" and I want it back to hang Christmas cards!) Feel free to check out my website for additional photos and more detailed instructions!
