Build A File Storage Bench To Stow Away Your Paper Clutter

My wife and I are always looking to find storage solutions in our home. We have a small house with a one car garage, so storage is an issue. We especially needed to find somewhere to store our files (instead of piling them on the floor beside the desk). I saw a file storage bench on Pinterest, so I decided to make one of my own. I designed this bench to hold files, but it could be used for any type of storage.







Here is our file system before I made the storage bench.





I used 1x4 and 1/4 in plywood to make the bench frame and 3/4 in plywood to make the bench top. I also made a seat cushion from foam and then covered it in a fabric my wife picked out.





To add more storage I made a removable shelf out of 1x4 (sides) and 1x12 (bottom).





I also made supports to hold the shelf, giving us additional storage underneath.





Finally, I purchased a hanging file frame and hanging files.
This bench is so useful, and we love that it can hide our mess. We still struggle with keeping things off our floors, but at least our files are under control.
