Hide Ugly Wall Eyesores With Floating Shelves

We have an access door to the water shutoff valve located in the middle of a finished wall in our basement. To hide it, I built floating shelves and installed them directly above and below the access door. This solution hides the eyesore, creates a storage and display area, and allows quick and easy access to the shut off valve in case of emergency.







After placing a few larger items on the shelf in front of the access door, you don't even notice it's there! But if we need to turn off the water quickly, we still have easy access to the shutoff valve.
