I've finally learned the secret of painting your baseboards and NOT getting paint onto your carpeting. It's a bit time consuming, but so worth it!We had natural oak baseboards when we bought our new house, but I wanted all the trim to be white. Do you know how expensive that would be to replace everything? I decided I would take my time and do every room.
Use shipping tape, either the clear or the tan, like the photo below. I had lots leftover from our moving
Lay the tape on the carpet and against the baseboard, with just a bit of it going up the sides...see photo
Using a simple table knife, gently wedge the tape under the baseboard
This is what it should look like
I did the floor first, but it really doesn't matter, but you'll obviously need to tape the wall by the baseboard, too.
I always used a hotel key card or in this case, my Anthropologies card to flatten the tape to the wall so paint won't seep under.
This was with my first coat of primer
This is another room and what it looked like once I removed all the tape.
