Room Design: How To Turn A Printed Graphic Into A Textured Tapestry

You would think our family being from Texas, we'd know all about horses, but we actually don't know much about them. A few weeks ago my daughter contacted a stable to get my grandson involved in equestrian therapy. He was born with a rare genetic disorder called Prader- Willi Syndrome, he's eight years old and very excited about the horses! I was organizing my stockpile of craft supplies this past weekend and came across this print and canvas. After getting everything in order, I decided to do a little horsing around. :D

I'm not great at measuring things, but after a while I managed to get my canvas cut to the proper size for the print.

I wanted a flap at the top to run a rod through, after measuring and getting everything straight, I creased the edges and glued them down. I glued the flap for the rod last, being careful not to glue where the rod would go through.

The next day I turned the canvas right side up and centered the print, I penciled the corners so when I mod podged it down it would be in the right place.

I brushed on pod podge and quickly positioned it in place using my pencil corners. I applied texture all around the canvas with a putty knife, and a little on the print with a stipple brush. After it was almost dry, I brushed off areas with a wire brush to form little craters.

I painted it the next day using Americana Burnt Sienna watered down a bit using a stipple brush. After it dried I painted the raised areas with Americana Calypso Blue using a fan brush. After it dried, I went back over the colors again and I glued on twine and spelled out Cameron's name.
