Old Cabinet Makeover

I saw this old cabinet advertised for sale on an online sale site. I knew it could be turned into something useful, though I wasn't exactly sure what that would be.

The hardware and interior reminded me of an old "icebox" The top was enamel, but I don't think it was an original part of this piece.

I looked for replacement hardware but couldn't find anything that was the same size that would work with the mating latch.

After removing the center of the door, my husband added chicken wire and built a shelf. The inside was painted white and the outside a deep barn red.

We painted the existing hardware and made a new wood top, stained it a country brown and gave it a few coats of polyurethane.
