Turn a Totally Useless Space Into Massive Pantry

We had a small pantry that was only about 2 feet deep with wire shelves. I hate the wire shelves (they sag when you put just a few canned goods on them).

This was the before. I had a very small pantry tucked into the corner of the kitchen. I love to cook, so I have lots of kitchen gadgets. I also like to keep my pantry stocked well. The space was totally inadequate. My kitchen gadgets were all over the house (you know, my electric skillet was tucked in the hall closet, my rotisserie was in the laundry room, etc.) Our home has textured walls and rounded corners, so I knew there were going to be a lot of details involved.

Framing and drywall took a day. Then a couple days to spackle and paint.

Now we're ready to install the shelving.

We decided to use the bracket and strip type shelving. It was much easier than framing, and I like the ability to adjust shelves if necessary.

What used to be just a wall is now a 10 foot pantry. I think it looks fantastic. You can't see in the photos, but I converted the old pantry into a closet in the hallway which is just on the other side of the kitchen. Totally functional use of space.

Everyone asked "Why do you need a 10 foot pantry?" As you see, I didn't have a problem filling it.
