Antique Wardrobe in Iron Ore (SW)

I bought this piece from a woman with a promise to make it beautiful again. She had had it for 40 years and loved it, but never had the time to refinish it. In the meantime the veneer had loosened and cracked and the finish had deteriorated. It was a huge project, but I'm so happy I brought this antique wardrobe back to life.

Before. The veneer on the top and one side had to come off as they had lifted, warped, and cracked. There was nice, solid wood underneath so I didn't have to do any additional construction.

I loved the rough texture of the original finish and decided to use if for my advantage when painting. I used a layered technique. I give all the details in my blog post (link at bottom of page).

The top had a great rustic look,so I sanded it smooth, gave it a coat of Special Walnut from Minwax, and sealed it with 3 coats of Varathane in satin.

I used gilt creme to highlight the details.

The inside received a makeover, too! I papered the drawer fronts and used hemp oil to revive the rest of the wood.
